i was just having a conversation on msn with a couple of my online friends: 2 chicks from usa. a hot dad (father of one of the 2 usa chicks) and 2 other girls from singapore, one apparently from RJC. so one of the 2 girls from usa starts using singlish. and huge protests came from the other girls, excluding me, in the conversation.
generally this is how shallow most of the protests looked to me. "WE FIGHT FOR NON-DISCRIMINATION AGAINST ASIAN RACES!!! but we fucking hate singlish."
right.
the only person there i thought was keeping it real was cinders. and tt usa chick who used singlish. i mean she's (as in cinders) never denied to be non-racist. its not tt she advocates racism. but at least she doesnt deny tt she has some prejudices against certain races. and i respect her for tt. so many of us are pseudo-non-racists. i shall proudly declare this. i am racist. whether i like it or not. i can never be completely non-racist becuz subconciously i always will. and its not like i'm an advocate of it.
but lets not digress and actually talk abt singlish. i hate it when people go "singlish is lousy! singlish sucks! singlish is a disgrace to singaporeans! singlish shud be fucking abolished. PROPER ENGLISH IS THE WAY TO GO! DON'T MISUSE ENGLISH BY USING SINGLISH!! BLAHBLAHBLAH WESTERN IDOLIZATION BLAHBLAHBLAH"
i hate it when people become condescending and all up-yours-snobby when they hear other people using singlish and get all "ooh-i'm-so-much-better-than-you-cuz-i-use-PROPER-english". right. like get a fucking clue. the only reason why the government is campaigning for proper use of english is becuz let's face it. english is, insofar, the universal language. and if u're dumb enough to be influenced by singlish in your use of english, well. then. um. okay. i'm just sorry u're not language proficient enough.
i will forever be in awe of really fluent bilingualists. people who actually love the languages they wield, whether on pen and paper or in speech. people who actually can use the language properly and not people who memorise phrases and lines to describe stuff and just randomly insert them into their compositions. blah. people who do tt are losers.
but i admit. i'm one of the stupid jerks who go around saying i dont like people who are cina/cheena. actually. i'm beginning to find out tt its not tt i dont like them. its tt i dont understand them. hahaha. damnit. i'm not one of those cunning bilinguists. but im proud to say tt i'm less inclined to avoid them (the named "cheena crowd"). largely becuz there're more snobbish frigid prats who use solely english than singlish. i'm proud to use singlish. and no matter wad anyone says. i will forever love singlish. becuz its the coolest thing ever invented. its only a pity tt nobody sees the beauty of it.
